Water Damage & Carpet Drying in Melbourne

Water Damage & Carpet Drying Services in Melbourne

Burst pipe or flooded floor? Call our 24-hour emergency line on 0483 982 111, day or night. Water that sits in carpet does not stay clean for long, and every extra wet day makes the job bigger.

The call-out is $250, and single room extraction and drying of clean water starts at $890. Grey water and sewage jobs are quoted after an inspection. We measure the drying with meters and write the readings down every day, so you know when it is actually dry.

Why does time matter so much with water damage?

Clean water from a burst pipe is the easiest kind to deal with, and only while it is fresh.

Left sitting, water picks up bacteria and smells, and porous materials that could have been dried start to need replacing instead. The carpet is rarely the real problem. The underlay and the subfloor beneath it usually are.

We handle clean water from burst pipes, taps, hot water services and overflowing baths. We also clean up grey water from washing machines and dishwashers, and black water from sewage or floodwater, where wet carpet and underlay are usually removed rather than dried. If mould has already taken hold, see mould cleaning in Melbourne.

What actually happens on site?

Four stages, and the middle two take the longest.

Assess

  • Source confirmed as stopped
  • Wet carpet moisture testing
  • Affected area mapped
  • Photographed before anything moves
  • Price confirmed before work starts

Extract

  • Standing water removed first
  • Water pulled out of the underlay
  • Underlay checked for saturation
  • Furniture blocked up off the floor
  • Rugs lifted off wet carpet

Dry

  • Dehumidifiers running
  • Air movers positioned to the airflow
  • Floor and wall edges checked
  • Readings taken every day
  • Equipment moved as it dries

Record and sign off

  • Daily moisture log
  • Photos at each stage
  • Final reading recorded
  • Copy of the log for you
  • Next steps written down

We are cleaners, not plumbers or builders. Plumbing repairs, replastering and rebuilding are separate trades, and we will tell you what needs one rather than quoting work we should not.

What should you do before we arrive?

Four things, in this order. In a flood or storm emergency, call the SES on 132 500 first.

Contact us
  1. Step 01

Stop the water and the power

Mains tap off. If water is anywhere near power points or the switchboard, leave the electricity to an electrician.

  2. Step 02

    Call your insurer

Ask their advice before throwing anything out. Photograph everything while it is still wet and where it landed.

  3. Step 03

    Lift what you can

Rugs off carpet, furniture legs onto foil or blocks, and anything on the floor moved up.

  4. Step 04

Do not assume it will dry

Carpet pile can feel dry within a day. Underlay and subfloor take far longer, and that is where the problem stays.

Why is a Melbourne home hard to dry?

Cold air holds far less moisture than warm air. That single fact shapes every winter job in this city.

  • Winter works against you. Opening windows in July moves very little moisture out, so passive drying struggles in the months when pipes tend to burst
  • Apartments send it downwards. A leak on one level can reach the units below, and the owners corporation usually needs to know
  • Old subfloors. Period homes over timber and brick piers hold water under the floor long after the room above looks fine

Dehumidification is not an upsell in a Melbourne winter. It is what actually pulls water out of the room.

Why does a small leak turn into a big bill?

Three things worth knowing before you wait and see.

Waiting changes the job

Fresh clean water can usually be extracted and dried with the carpet kept. Water left for days starts to smell and grow bacteria, and more of the underlay and anything porous ends up being replaced instead of dried.

A Melbourne winter will not dry it for you

Cold air carries far less moisture than warm air, so an open window moves almost nothing out. The carpet may feel dry within a day while the underlay and subfloor stay wet for much longer. Dehumidifiers are what take the water out.

Dry means a reading, not a feeling

A carpet that feels dry underfoot tells you nothing about the underlay, the subfloor or the bottom of the wall. We dry to a moisture reading and write it down every day, so the finish is a number rather than a guess.

What do Melbourne customers ask about water damage?

How much does water damage drying cost in Melbourne?

Call-out and assessment is $250 including GST. Single room extraction and drying of clean water starts at $890. Larger jobs, grey water and sewage clean-up are quoted after an inspection.

How fast can you come out?

Call our 24-hour emergency line on 0483 982 111 at any hour. We will tell you on the phone when we can be there and what to do until we arrive.

What kind of water damage do you handle?

Clean water from burst pipes, taps and hot water services, grey water from washing machines and dishwashers, and black water from sewage or floodwater. Grey and black water are quoted after an inspection. Tell us the source when you call, and stay out of sewage or floodwater until it is cleaned.

How fast do I need to act?

As soon as you can. The longer water sits, the more likely it is to smell, grow bacteria and need materials replaced rather than dried. Stop the source, lift what you can and call.

Should I call my insurer or you first?

Your insurer. Ask their advice before cleaning or throwing anything out, and photograph everything while it is still wet. Then call us, because the drying clock is running.

Will my carpet be saved?

It depends on how long it has been wet. Clean water caught quickly usually means the carpet stays, though the underlay may need replacing. We tell you what we find at the first visit.

How do you know when it is actually dry?

We take moisture readings with meters and log them daily until the reading says dry. A carpet feeling dry underfoot tells you nothing about the underlay, the subfloor or the bottom of the wall. You get a copy of the log at the end.

Can you dry a home in a Melbourne winter?

Yes, but not by opening windows. Cold air carries far less moisture than warm air, so passive drying barely works in July. We run dehumidifiers, which is what actually removes the water.

Do you do the plumbing and the rebuilding too?

No. We extract, dry, record and clean. Plumbing, replastering and rebuilding are different trades, and we will tell you what needs a licensed one rather than quoting it ourselves.

We stay until it's right

Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work. For end of lease cleans, if you're not satisfied and tell us within 72 hours, we come back and re-clean.

Need water damage drying in Melbourne?

Tell us the source, how long it has been wet and how many rooms. That is enough for us to tell you what the job looks like.
