Curtain Cleaning in Darwin

Taking curtains down to clean them means bare windows, a wait, and rehanging when they come back. We steam clean on the rail instead, so the curtains never leave the window.

Sets start at $65, or $160 for blockout and heavy lined. We check the fabric first and tell you straight if yours should not be steamed.

  • Cleaned on the rail, no takedown and no rehanging
  • No bare windows while they are cleaned
  • Hems and linings done, not just the face fabric
  • Published NT rates, per set, from $65

What does curtain cleaning on the rail involve?

We work the panel from the heading tape to the hem while it hangs, front and lining. Nothing is unhooked, bagged, or measured back on afterwards.

The window itself is a separate job and sits on window cleaning. If damp has already reached the wall around the reveal, that is mould cleaning.

How much does curtain cleaning in Darwin cost?

Published NT rates including GST, charged per set rather than per panel.

Set NT rate
Small curtain set $65
Medium curtain set $95
Large curtain set $125
Blockout or heavy lined set From $160

The whole house can be done in one visit, so add up the sets room by room and book them together.

Why do Darwin curtains go first at the hem?

The hem hangs in the stillest air in the room, close to the floor. Dust and damp settle there first, and in the wet season from November to April nothing dries it out.

  • The bottom of the drop picks up floor dust and moisture from mopping, which is why the hem goes first and the top looks fine
  • Blockout linings are near standard here for heat and light, and they hold damp against themselves
  • Bedrooms shut up through the day get no airflow across the fabric at all
  • Louvres and open windows in the dry push red dust straight into the weave
  • Coastal suburbs add a salt film that makes dust cling instead of shaking out

Curtains are the biggest piece of fabric in most homes and the one nobody thinks to clean.

  1. Step 01

    Sets confirmed

We go through the sets on your quote with you, so the price is settled before we start.

  2. Step 02

    Check the fabric first

Face fabric and lining are both checked before anything starts. If a panel should not be steamed, you hear it then.

  3. Step 03

    Cleaned top to hem

Heading tape, face, lining and hem, while the curtain hangs. Photographed for the report.

  4. Step 04

    Happy before we leave

Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work.

Where do curtains give out first?

Check these before you decide whether yours need doing or replacing.

The bottom of the drop

Discolouration, spotting or a line across the hem. It is where dust and damp settle, and it is the first place a Darwin curtain shows its age.

The lining, not the face

Turn a panel around. The side facing the glass is usually a stage worse than the side facing the room, and only one of them ever gets looked at.

The heading tape and pleats

Dust settles into the folds at the top and never falls out. It is why curtains can look dull across the whole drop without a single mark on them.

The leading edge

The edge you pull every day carries hand oils. It goes darker than the rest of the panel and reads as fading rather than dirt.

  • Darwin CBD
  • Larrakeyah
  • Stuart Park
  • The Gardens
  • Fannie Bay

Northern suburbs

  • Casuarina
  • Alawa
  • Wagaman
  • Leanyer
  • Karama
  • Malak
  • Marrara
  • Wanguri

High residential rental movement makes bond cleaning very common across these suburbs.

Larger family blocks and sheds often combine regular cleans with outdoor pressure washing.

What do people ask before booking curtain cleaning?

How much does curtain cleaning cost in Darwin?

A small set is $65, medium $95 and large $125. Blockout and heavy lined sets start at $160 because the lining takes longer to work through.

Do you have to take the curtains down?

In most cases no. We clean on the rail, so there is no rehanging and no bare window.

Will steam cleaning shrink or mark my curtains?

Not when the fabric suits the method, which is why we check the fabric and the lining before starting. Some materials should not be steamed at all, and if yours is one of them we tell you on the spot.

My blockout lining has gone sticky and powdery. Can you clean that?

No. That is the backing breaking down, not dirt sitting on it, and rubbing at it takes more of it off, so those panels need replacing.

Why do my curtains smell musty when they look fine?

Because the smell is in the hem and the lining rather than on the face fabric. The bottom of a curtain hangs where the air does not move, and that is the part we spend the time on.

Are there curtain cleaners near me in Palmerston and the rural area?

Yes. We cover Palmerston, the newer estates and out through Howard Springs and Humpty Doo, on the same NT rates as the city.

We stay until it's right

Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work. For end of lease cleans, if you're not satisfied and tell us within 72 hours, we come back and re-clean.
