public liability cover, held by Shining Services

Insured before we set foot in your building

Our policy responds to third-party property damage and personal injury arising from our cleaning operations. It is the cover almost every commercial contract, strata scheme and landlord asks to see. The certificate of currency is yours on request, and can name your entity as an interested party where your contract requires it.

What is insured, and what is not

Four things worth knowing before you file our certificate, including the one most cleaning companies leave you to discover at claim time.

$10M public liability

Our public liability policy responds to third-party property damage and personal injury arising from our cleaning operations. It is the cover almost every commercial contract, strata scheme and landlord asks to see. A certificate of currency naming the limit and the period is yours on request, and can be issued with your entity named as an interested party where your contract requires it.

Contractors insured in their own name

Cleaners engaged as contractors hold their own public liability cover. The certificate is uploaded during onboarding, verified by our team against the policy period, and recorded with its expiry date. Cover is confirmed before a first visit and re-confirmed at renewal, rather than assumed for the life of the contract.

Currency is monitored, not filed

An insurance certificate is a snapshot of one day. Ours are held with their expiry dates and chased before they lapse, and a contractor whose cover has expired is not eligible to be rostered. The common failure in this industry is not uninsured cleaners. It is cleaners who were insured on the day they were hired.

What insurance does not cover

No policy covers everything, and being told that at claim time is the worst way to learn it. Pre-existing damage, wear from normal use, items of unusual value that were not declared, and work outside the agreed scope sit outside a public liability response. Tell us what is irreplaceable in your building before we start and we will write the handling into the scope.

What actually happens

Most damage is settled directly and quickly. The process is the same whether it ends with a repair or with an insurer.

  1. Stage 01

It is reported, usually by us

Breakages and damage are reported the day they happen, with photos and the visit they belong to. Our crews are trained to report rather than hope, so you should hear it from us first.

  2. Stage 02

    Logged against the visit

The incident is recorded against the site, the visit and the crew, with the evidence attached. That record is what makes a later claim quick instead of a disagreement about dates.

  3. Stage 03

    Assessed and made good

Small damage is repaired or replaced directly. Most matters are settled this way, without troubling an insurer or an excess. You are told which route we are taking and when it will be done.

  4. Stage 04

    Escalated to the insurer

Where the value warrants it, the claim goes to our insurer with the record already assembled. We stay the point of contact, because you should not have to chase a cleaning company's underwriter.

What keeps the claim from happening

Insurance pays for the accident. These are the controls that stop it, and they are the reason our claims history stays short.

  • Pre-commencement site risk assessment, walked and recorded before the first visit
  • Safe work method statements for the tasks in your scope, not a generic pack
  • Chemical register with current Safety Data Sheets, and products matched to surfaces
  • Incident and near-miss reporting on the day, with a corrective action against each
  • Emergency and spill response procedures agreed with your site before they are needed
  • Keys, alarm codes and access credentials handled under a written procedure
  • Contractor compliance managed centrally, with checks, cover and eligibility in one place
  • Annual review of cover, claims history and the risks the site has actually produced

Insurance is the last line, not the plan. The controls above are what keep a claim from being needed, and they are documented in full on our compliance page, with the checking that sits on top of them set out under quality assurance.

What we can send you

What procurement and strata committees ask

How much public liability cover do you hold?
$10M of public liability cover, held by Shining Services. We will send a certificate of currency showing the limit and the policy period on request, usually the same business day.
Can the certificate name our company?
Yes. Where your contract, strata scheme or landlord requires your entity to be named as an interested party, tell us the exact legal name and we will arrange the certificate accordingly.
Are your contractors insured?
Yes. Cleaners engaged as contractors hold public liability cover in their own name. The certificate is uploaded and verified during onboarding and recorded with its expiry date, and a contractor whose cover has lapsed is not eligible to be rostered.
What about workers compensation?
Workers compensation obligations depend on how each cleaner is engaged and in which state, and contractors hold their own cover. Ask us for the position that applies to the crew on your site and we will set it out in writing rather than gesture at a policy that may not answer your question.
Something was damaged during a clean. What now?
Tell your supervisor, though in most cases our crew will have already reported it. The incident is logged against the visit with photos, and small damage is repaired or replaced directly. Larger matters go to our insurer with the record already assembled, and we stay your point of contact throughout.
Do we need to add you to our own insurance?
No. We carry our own cover and the contractors on your site carry theirs. If your broker asks for anything specific before the contract starts, send us the requirement and we will tell you plainly whether we can meet it.
How quickly can you provide documentation for a tender?
Usually the same business day. Request the compliance pack and you receive the certificate of currency, the site-specific safe work method statements, the chemical register and the checks held for the crew, in one go.
