Water Damage Restoration and Carpet Drying in Darwin

Water on the floor right now? Ring our 24-hour emergency line on 0483 982 111 and we tell you on the call when a crew can be there.

Water damage in Darwin is not the same job it is down south. Opening the windows and running a fan through the wet season moves air that is already too wet to dry anything, which is why fans alone leave you with mould instead of a dry floor.

We extract, then dehumidify, then document every step with dated photos your insurer can read. Call out is $265 including GST and single room extraction and drying starts at $935, which is a long way short of re-carpeting the house.

Why will fans alone not dry a house in Darwin?

Because drying is evaporation, and evaporation depends on the gap between the wet surface and the air around it. As that air gets closer to saturated, drying slows towards nothing.

Through the wet season, from November to April, Darwin's outside air is often more humid than the air inside an air conditioned house. Opening the house up is not drying it. It is importing moisture.

Dehumidification is the part that does the work here, and it is the part a hire fan cannot do.

How long have you actually got?

Not long, and the Darwin climate shortens it.

Mould can start within a day or two

Health authorities warn that mould can start growing within a day or two of a flood. A building that stays wet longer than that should be treated as having growth somewhere.

Darwin air is humid for most of the year

Indoor humidity in Darwin sits in the range mould likes for much of the year, and highest through the wet. That is why a wet floor here does not wait.

Clean water does not stay clean

Water from a clean supply line, left sitting, picks up whatever is in the carpet and the floor below it. Within a couple of days it is no longer clean water, and the salvage answer changes.

Muddy floodwater carries a local risk

Melioidosis, a soil bacterium found in the Top End, is more common through the wet season. It can enter through cuts, which is a real reason not to pull up sodden carpet yourself.

What do we actually do on site?

The order matters more than the equipment count.

Extract first

  • Standing water pulled out
  • Carpet lifted where needed
  • Water traced back to source
  • Affected area mapped

Then dry properly

  • Dehumidifiers, not just air movers
  • Air movement across wet surfaces
  • Underlay assessed and removed if needed
  • Wall bases and skirtings checked

Then clean

  • Carpet cleaned once dry
  • Odour dealt with at the source
  • Contents moved back

Document all of it

  • Dated photos from the first visit
  • Readings recorded as drying goes
  • A report you can forward to the insurer

What happens after you call?

Four steps. The first one starts on the phone.

Contact us
  1. Step 01

Tell us what the water is

Where it came from decides everything that follows. A clean supply line, grey water from a washing machine, storm water off the ground and sewage are different jobs.

  2. Step 02

    We give you a time

The 24-hour emergency line is answered at any hour, and you hear on the call when a crew can be there.

  3. Step 03

    Gear arrives with them

Extraction units, air movers and dehumidifiers come with the crew, so you do not hire anything.

  4. Step 04

    Report you can claim on

Dated photos and readings from the first visit through to dry. Evidence from day one is what helps settle a claim.

Which parts of Darwin flood, and why?

The same places come up every wet season, and there is a tidal reason behind most of them.

  • Rapid Creek backs up when heavy rain lands on a high tide, because the creek has nowhere to discharge
  • The Narrows, along Ludmilla Creek, floods in heavy rain
  • Low lying industrial blocks at Yarrawonga go under in relatively small rain events
  • Anula, Moil and Marrara have known stormwater problems
  • Out of town, low ground around Howard Springs, Virginia, Herbert and Noonamah takes water in big storms

Heavy wet season storms have flooded homes in Rapid Creek, Nightcliff and Alawa, so the northern suburbs are where we expect calls first.

Why call us instead of the next name on the list?

Six reasons, one line each.

Darwin based team

We work out of 93 Smith Street in Darwin City, not an interstate dispatch line.

Dehumidification, not just fans

The part that actually removes water from Darwin air, rather than pushing it around.

Evidence from day one

Dated photos and readings, which is what an insurer asks for.

Published call out fee

$265, on the page, before you ring.

Happy before we leave

Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work.

If the carpet is gone, you hear it on the first visit, not after a week of hire fees.

What do Darwin customers say about us?

What does water damage restoration cost in Darwin?

Published NT rates including GST. Worth holding against what new carpet costs, which is where this decision is usually made.

Scope NT rate
Call out and assessment $265
Single room extraction and drying From $935
Multiple rooms, subfloor or commercial Quoted on site
Black water (sewage) and grey water clean-up Quoted after inspection

Drying is usually cheaper than replacing carpet and underlay, and always faster, but only if it starts early enough to work. Sewage and grey water jobs are quoted once we have seen how far the water spread.

Do you do commercial and rental properties?

Yes. Offices, shopfronts, warehouses and strata common areas, plus rentals where the agent needs the work documented.

Check your policy before you assume flood is covered, because flood is often a separate kind of cover. In a rental, tell the landlord or agent straight away, because a burst pipe or a flood is an urgent repair for them to arrange.

What usually follows a water damage job?

Booked once the floor is dry, not before.

Mould cleaning

When surface mould has shown up on walls or ceilings after the water. From $315. See mould cleaning

Carpet cleaning

The clean that goes on once the carpet is dry, not while it is still wet. See carpet cleaning

Upholstery steam cleaning

For lounges and chairs that sat in the damp room. Three seater from $220. See upholstery cleaning

Deep and spring cleaning

The full reset once the house is dry and back together. From $315. See deep cleaning

Pressure washing

Driveways, paths and outside surfaces after storm debris. From $195. See pressure washing

Tile and grout

Hard floors where the grout held silt from the water. $38 per square metre. See tile and grout

Which Darwin suburbs do we attend?

Same NT rates across the whole service area, city out to the rural blocks. Suburb not listed? Send it through and we will confirm the same day.

City and coastal

  • Darwin CBD
  • Larrakeyah
  • Stuart Park
  • The Gardens
  • Fannie Bay
  • Parap
  • Cullen Bay
  • Nightcliff

Coastal salt air coats glass and louvre blades, requiring extra care on tracks.

Northern suburbs

  • Casuarina
  • Alawa
  • Wagaman
  • Leanyer
  • Karama
  • Malak
  • Marrara
  • Wanguri

High residential rental movement makes bond cleaning very common across these suburbs.

Palmerston and rural

  • Palmerston
  • Berrimah
  • Winnellie
  • Howard Springs
  • Humpty Doo

Larger family blocks and sheds often combine regular cleans with outdoor pressure washing.

What do people ask when their floor is wet?

Will my insurance cover this?

That is your insurer's call, and it depends on your policy. Sudden damage, such as a burst pipe, is treated differently from a slow leak, and flood is often separate cover. Our dated photos and readings give your insurer what they need to decide.

Can my carpet be saved, or do I need new carpet?

Often yes, if the water was clean and we get to it fast. Clean water caught early usually means the carpet dries in place. Dirty water, or carpet that has sat wet for more than about two days, generally means it comes out, and you get that answer on the first visit.

What happens to the underlay?

It is the part that decides the job. Underlay holds most of the water in a carpet system, and foam underlay holds a lot of it. Clean water caught early can dry in place, while anything dirtier means the underlay comes out even when the carpet stays.

What does a call out cost, and how fast can you get there?

Call out and assessment is $265 including GST. Ring the 24-hour emergency line on 0483 982 111, day or night, and we tell you on the call when a crew can be there. Ring rather than email if the water is still there.

If I just open the windows and run fans, will that dry it?

Not in a Darwin wet season. Drying works on the gap between the wet surface and the air, and the outside air through the wet is often wetter than the air inside. You need a dehumidifier pulling water out, not a fan moving wet air around.

How long does drying take?

Three to five days is normal for carpet and underlay in a room or two. Subfloors and wall cavities take longer, and a concrete slab that took a real soaking can run for weeks. We tell you the expected run at the start and you get readings as it goes.

Do we have to move out?

Usually not for clean water in one or two rooms, though the equipment is noisy and keeps running between our visits. Anyone in the house with asthma or a lung condition is a reason to talk about it rather than push through.

What if the water came off the ground or out of the sewer?

Do not handle it yourself. Storm water carries soil, and sewage or toilet overflow (black water) carries far worse. We clean up both, along with grey water from showers and washing machines, and quote it after an inspection because the scope depends on how far it spread.

We stay until it's right

Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work. For end of lease cleans, if you're not satisfied and tell us within 72 hours, we come back and re-clean.
