Curtain Cleaning in Adelaide

Curtain cleaning in Adelaide has a catch. Afternoon sun does more damage than dust, and weakened fabric is the part that gives when it gets wet.

So we check the fabric first, on the hang, before anything gets wet. Sometimes the honest answer is that yours should not be cleaned. Sets start at $55, or from $135 for blockout and heavy lined.

  • Fabric checked for sun damage before anything else

How do we clean curtains in Adelaide homes?

Curtains do not usually fail because they are dirty. They fail because the sun got to them first.

We clean curtains, sheers and drapes on the hang, so nothing comes off the track and nothing gets stretched. Sets start at $55, and blockout or heavy lined runs from $135.

The fabric check happens before any water does. Sun-weakened sheers and breaking-down blockout linings will not survive a clean, and you hear that before we start rather than after.

This is fabric cleaning, not repair. We do not rehem, replace linings or rehang tracks. Mould on a lining belongs with mould cleaning. Glass and tracks go to window cleaning, and fabric furniture to upholstery cleaning.

How often should you book a curtain clean?

How often should curtains be cleaned?

Every 18 to 24 months suits most homes. Closer to 12 months with pets, a smoker in the house, or a place on a busy road. Sheers show it sooner than heavy drapes because there is less fabric to hide it.

What is included in a curtain clean?

Every job starts with the fabric check. Here is what happens after it, and what sits outside the work.

Before we start

  • Fabric identified and checked for sun damage
  • Linings checked separately from the face
  • Test patch for colourfastness
  • Marks, tears and weak seams noted
  • Anything we would not risk, flagged

The clean

  • Loose dust out of folds and heading
  • Steam or dry method to suit the fabric
  • Folds and hems detailed
  • Marks treated one at a time
  • Curtains dressed back into their folds

Also covered

  • Sheers, lined, blockout and drapes
  • Accessible pelmets and track tops
  • Valances, swags and tiebacks
  • Multiple rooms in one visit

Not this service

  • Mould grown into the fabric
  • Glass and frames, our window service
  • Repairs, re-hemming and re-lining
  • Track and motor replacement
  • Taking curtains down to wash elsewhere

Not sure what your curtains are made of? Look for a care label sewn into the side hem or tucked behind the heading tape. A photo of that label tells us more than any description of the colour or weight.

How does a curtain clean run?

Four steps, and the first two happen before anything touches the fabric.

Contact us
  1. Step 01

    Send the details

How many curtains, roughly what size, and what they are made of if you know. A photo of the worst area and one of the heading tape help most.

  2. Step 02

    Inspect and test

The cleaner checks the fabric and the lining, tests a hidden spot for colourfastness, and looks for sun damage before anything else happens.

  3. Step 03

    Clean on the track

Loose dust comes off first, then the method that suits the fabric. Folds, hems and heading get worked one by one rather than passed over.

  4. Step 04

    Dress and check

Curtains are dressed back into their folds and we walk the rooms with you. Drying time depends on the method and the fabric weight.

Why is Adelaide sun harder on curtains than dust?

Curtains are the one furnishing that sits in direct sunlight all day, and Adelaide gives them plenty of it.

  • Sun weakens the fibres, it does not just fade them. Summers here run hot, dry and bright, with long rainless stretches and very high UV. North and west-facing windows take the worst of it, which is why one curtain in a pair often looks older than the other.
  • Sheers and blockout backings go first. Sheers go brittle, and the backing on blockout linings starts to break down and can flake. The fabric looks fine because the track carries the weight, until moisture and handling are added.
  • Then the seasons swap over. In the dry months doors and windows stay open and dust settles at the heading first. Winter flips it, with closed houses and condensation on the glass putting moisture into the hem.

What should you check before booking curtain cleaning?

Ask these before anyone starts on your curtains.

Will they check the fabric before cleaning it?

This matters most with curtains. Years of hard afternoon light weaken the fibres long before the fabric looks worn.

A sheer that has gone brittle will tear once it takes on moisture, and a lining that is breaking down will shed. We test a hidden section first and tell you honestly if yours should be left alone.

On the hang or taken down?

We clean on the track only. Taking curtains down to wash them risks shrinkage, and getting the drop wrong ruins the hang.

Steam or a dry method goes through the fabric where it sits, with no dismantling and nothing folded into a bag. You keep your curtains up the whole time.

What about mould on the lining?

Adelaide winters put condensation on the glass, and the lining is what sits against it. Black speckling along the bottom hem is the usual sign.

Light surface spotting can lift. Mould that has grown into the weave has stained the fibre and will not come out, and it will return unless the moisture cause is fixed.

How is it priced?

Per set, measured against the drop and the fabric weight. A small set is $55, medium $79 and large $105.

Blockout and heavy lined starts at $135 because the fabric holds more and takes longer to dry. Tell us the number of windows and roughly how tall the drops are for a fixed figure.

The question in an Adelaide house is not how dirty the curtains are. It is whether they are still strong enough to clean.

Why do Adelaide homes book us for curtains?

Curtain cleaning comes down to reading the fabric before you touch it.

Large set

Should the windows be done at the same time?

Is it worth booking windows with the curtains?

Usually, yes. Curtains hold dust that settles straight back onto dirty glass, and the sill under them is where the two problems meet. Doing both in one visit saves a second call-out, and the windows are priced alongside at quote stage.

Which Adelaide suburbs do we cover for curtain cleaning?

Tell us which way the windows face when you book. West-facing rooms tend to have the most sun-affected curtains in the house.

City and inner east

  • Adelaide CBD
  • North Adelaide
  • Kent Town
  • Norwood
  • Unley
  • Burnside
  • Prospect
  • Walkerville

We service everything from CBD apartments to classic bluestone and sandstone villas. Older period homes trap dust on picture rails, high skirting boards, and ceiling roses. We target these exact spots during our visits.

West and coastal

  • Ashford
  • Marleston
  • Glenelg
  • Henley Beach
  • Semaphore
  • West Lakes
  • Port Adelaide

We clean coastal properties and classic brick veneer homes. Salt air blowing off the Gulf leaves a sticky film on glass and jams up window tracks. We dedicate extra time to scrubbing these frames and windows so they slide perfectly.

North, south and the Hills

  • Salisbury
  • Elizabeth
  • Gawler
  • Mawson Lakes
  • Modbury
  • Marion
  • Morphett Vale
  • Noarlunga
  • Stirling
  • Aldgate
  • Mount Barker

We cover the newer estates out on the plains and the older stone properties up in the Hills. Spring pollen hits the Adelaide Hills hard. We recommend booking window and vent cleaning early in the season to keep allergens outside.

What do Adelaide customers ask before we touch their curtains?

Can you clean curtains without taking them down?

Yes, that is the only way we work. On the track we reach the face, the folds and the hem. The top around the hooks is the hardest part to reach, so a heavily soiled heading improves but may not come fully clean.

Will cleaning shrink my curtains?

Not if the method matches the fabric. Steam suits sturdy lined and blockout curtains, while delicate, loose-weave and shrink-sensitive fabrics get a dry method.

What if my curtains are sun-damaged?

We tell you at the inspection and stop. Sun-weakened fabric can tear under its own weight once it takes on moisture, so cleaning it is not worth the risk.

Do you clean sheers and blockout curtains?

Yes, and they are different jobs. Sheers are light and often the most sun-affected, so they get the gentlest handling. Blockout curtains carry a backing that can break down with age, which we check before starting.

Can you get mould out of curtains?

Light surface marks may lift with cleaning. Mould that has grown into the fabric, usually along a hem that has sat against condensation, leaves a stain we cannot promise to remove, and we tell you which you have.

Do you clean blinds and shutters?

Tell us what you have when you enquire and we will confirm at quote stage whether we can do them. Some blind types need specialist equipment we do not carry.

What does curtain cleaning cost in Adelaide?

Sets start at $55 for small, $79 for medium and $105 for large, and blockout or heavy lined runs from $135, including GST. Send the window count and rough drop height for a fixed figure.
