Upholstery Cleaning in Melbourne

Upholstery Cleaning Services in Melbourne

Your couch gets more use than anything else you own. Upholstery cleaning in Melbourne is usually booked after a spill, which is years too late. By then the body oils are already through the fabric.

We read the fabric code before anything gets wet. Some lounges cannot take water at all. A three seater is $210, cleaned in your living room. Drying usually takes a few hours, longer in winter.

  • Published price per piece, not per hour

What do the letters on your sofa tag mean?

Every fabric lounge carries a cleaning code. It sits on a tag under a seat cushion, on the decking, or under the frame.

W means water-based cleaning is safe. S means solvent only, and water will ring it. WS means either, with care. X means vacuum only.

Steam cleaning an S or X fabric causes rings, dye bleed and shrinkage that cannot be reversed. The code is a starting point, so we still test a hidden panel before anything visible.

Leather lounges are a different service entirely. See leather cleaning and conditioning in Melbourne.

How often should a fabric sofa be cleaned?

Sooner than most people think, and well before it looks dirty.

Every 12 to 18 months

A lounge in normal daily use. Body oils build in the fabric long before the colour changes.

Every 6 to 12 months

Homes with pets or young children, where spills and fur build up faster.

Straight away

Spills, pet accidents and anything that has soaked in. Waiting sets the problem rather than pausing it.

What happens to your lounge on the day?

Four stages, and the first one decides the rest.

Read and test

  • Cleaning code located
  • Fabric type identified
  • Colourfastness tested out of sight
  • Existing damage photographed
  • Method confirmed with you

Dry soil first

  • Cushions lifted and vacuumed
  • Crevices and seams cleared
  • Under the frame and skirt
  • Pet hair lifted before wetting
  • Loose grit removed

Clean to the code

  • Water-based or solvent, as the tag allows
  • Spots pre-treated by type
  • Arms and headrests worked harder
  • Piping and seams by hand
  • Rinsed so nothing is left behind

Dried properly

  • Extracted until barely damp
  • Air movers where the room is cold
  • Cushions turned and separated
  • Realistic drying time given to you
  • Cushions left to air before going back

Over-wetting a W or WS fabric pushes soil down into the foam. It wicks back up as brown marks a few days later, which is why the clean looks worse by the weekend.

Do we take the lounge away?

No. Everything happens in your living room.

Why does a wet sofa cause trouble in Melbourne?

Foam holds water long after fabric feels dry. In a cold closed house it has nowhere to go.

  • May to September. A soaked lounge can stay damp for days. That is how a sofa ends up smelling musty weeks after it was cleaned
  • Winter use. Long cold months mean more hours on the couch, and more body oil in the fabric by spring
  • Apartments. CBD, Southbank and Docklands modulars cannot go outside to air. Drying has to happen in the room
  • Pets indoors. A long cold season keeps animals on the furniture rather than in the yard

We use as little moisture as the fabric needs and bring drying gear through the colder months.

Why do sofas look worse a week after cleaning?

Three things that decide whether a clean holds.

Why stains come back brown a few days later

Over-wetting pushes soil down into the foam instead of lifting it out. As the cushion dries the moisture travels back up and brings the soil with it.

That is wicking, and it explains why a sofa can look worse by the weekend than it did before anyone touched it. We use the least moisture the fabric needs and extract hard on every single pass.

Why a Melbourne winter slows drying

Foam holds water long after the fabric feels dry to the hand. In a cold closed house that moisture sits there for days.

That is where the musty smell comes from weeks later, long after anyone connects it to the clean. Through the colder months we bring drying gear and run it during the job, so you are not left sitting on a damp lounge.

Priced by the piece, published before we arrive

Our prices are published per piece. A three seater is $210, an armchair is $75 and a dining chair is $40.

Every figure includes GST and is agreed before the day, so you know the total before anyone arrives.

Nobody complains about a sofa on the day it is cleaned. They complain the following weekend, when the marks come back or the room still smells damp.

What do Melbourne customers ask about upholstery cleaning?

How much does it cost to clean a three seater sofa in Melbourne?

$210 including GST. Armchairs are $75, dining chairs are $40 and a five to six seat modular starts at $360. Prices are published per piece rather than charged by the hour, so you know the total before we arrive.

Can every fabric sofa be steam cleaned?

No, it depends on the cleaning code printed on the tag under your seat cushion. W and WS fabrics take water, S needs solvent only and X means vacuum alone. Steam on an S or X fabric causes rings and dye bleed that cannot be reversed.

How long does a sofa take to dry?

A few hours in most cases, longer through a Melbourne winter. Foam holds water well after the fabric feels dry to the hand, which is where musty smells come from later. We bring drying gear through the colder months and give you a realistic drying time.

Will old stains come out?

Some will and some will not. Spills sitting on the fibre usually lift, while bleach, some medications and a few dyes permanently change the colour and no cleaning reverses that. We tell you which is which before starting rather than after you have paid.

Can you get rid of pet smell in a couch?

Usually, if we treat the foam rather than the surface. Urine and body oils pass through the fabric into the cushion core, which is why spraying the top never holds. We check how deep it went and quote that part separately.

Do you clean leather lounges?

No, not on this service. Leather needs identification, cleaning and conditioning rather than fabric extraction, so it runs as its own booking. If your suite has both, we can do the fabric and the leather in the same visit.

Do you take the furniture away?

No. Everything is cleaned in your living room, which matters for corner modulars and anything that will not fit down an apartment stairwell. We sheet the floors before moving a single cushion.

How often should a fabric lounge be cleaned?

Every 12 to 18 months for normal use, and every 6 to 12 with pets or young children. Body oils build up in the fabric long before the colour changes, so waiting until it looks dirty means waiting too long.

What other cleaning do we do in Melbourne?

Most customers book more than one. Same crews, same standards, one invoice.
