Mould Cleaning in Adelaide

Mould cleaning only holds if you fix what caused it. Clean the ceiling above the shower, leave the extractor fan broken, and it is back before spring.

So our quote asks where the moisture is coming from. Surface cleaning on a small bathroom is $260, and a wall or ceiling treatment starts at $359. Mould that has gone past the surface is assessed on inspection and quoted for remediation.

Why does mould keep coming back after you clean it?

Mould is a symptom. Clean it without fixing the moisture and you are booking the same job again in six months.

We clean surface mould off walls, ceilings, bathroom tiles, window reveals and silicone. Our quote asks where the water is coming from, because that answer decides whether the clean holds.

A broken extractor fan, a failed seal or condensation on single glazing is usually the cause. The clean is the easy part.

Surface cleaning or remediation. Mould inside plasterboard or under flooring needs remediation: the area contained, affected building materials removed and the space dried out. We offer it, quoted after an inspection, and tell you when yours has passed the surface. Related work: tile and grout cleaning, curtain cleaning, upholstery cleaning and water damage and carpet drying.

What is included in a mould clean?

Every job starts with the moisture question. Here is what happens after it, and what sits outside the work.

Before we start

  • Affected areas and surface types identified
  • Severity checked against what cleaning achieves
  • Moisture source discussed first
  • Porous surfaces flagged for possible staining
  • Anything past the surface quoted as remediation

The clean

  • Loose growth vacuumed off first
  • Products matched to each surface
  • Growth removed, not painted over
  • Silicone, grout lines and edges by hand
  • Area dried down before we leave

Surfaces we clean

  • Painted walls and ceilings
  • Bathroom and ensuite surfaces
  • Window reveals, sills and frames
  • Silicone seals and shower edges
  • Tiled and other hard surfaces

Remediation, quoted after inspection

  • Mould inside walls, ceilings or floors
  • Affected area contained first
  • Affected building materials removed
  • Area dried before it is closed up

Leak, roof and damp-proofing repairs, air or spore testing, and mould in curtains, upholstery or carpet sit outside this service.

Do you know where the moisture is coming from? If you do, tell us when you book. If you do not, it is worth working out before you spend money on cleaning, because a clean without a fix is temporary.

How does a mould cleaning job run?

Four steps, and the second one is where we tell you if it needs remediation rather than a clean.

Contact us
  1. Step 01

    Send the details

Where it is, roughly how much area, how bad it looks, and whether you know the cause. With mould, photos tell us more than descriptions.

  2. Step 02

    Assess and be honest

We look at the surfaces, the spread and the likely cause. If it is a cleaning job you get a price, and if it has gone past the surface you get a remediation scope and quote instead.

  3. Step 03

    The clean

Loose growth comes off first, then products matched to the surface are worked into edges, silicone and grout lines by hand.

  4. Step 04

    Dry down and advice

The area is dried before we leave, and you get practical advice on ventilation. Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work.

Why does Adelaide get mould in winter, not summer?

Adelaide summers are dry enough that people assume the city has no mould problem. Then the houses close up for winter and it appears.

  • The rain arrives with the cold. Most of Adelaide's rain falls in the cooler months, while summer is hot and dry. Closed houses mean less air movement and more condensation on cold surfaces, so window reveals, external corners and the wall behind a wardrobe show it first.
  • Some heaters add to it. Unflued and portable gas heaters put water vapour straight into the room, which is the last thing a closed-up house needs.
  • Older housing and salt damp. Adelaide has plenty of older stone and brick homes, and salt damp brings moisture up through the lower courses of those walls. That is a building problem rather than a cleaning one, and so is poor subfloor ventilation in mid-century homes.

What should you check before booking mould cleaning in Adelaide?

Ask these before you pay to clean mould that will be back by spring.

Is it surface mould or has it gone into the wall?

Surface mould sits on paint, grout or silicone and wipes back to clean. Mould that has gone into plasterboard has stained through and returns after every wipe.

Soft or bubbling plaster is the giveaway, and so is a stain that reappears in the same shape within weeks. We check before quoting, so you do not pay for a surface clean when the job needs remediation.

What is actually causing it?

Adelaide winters bring condensation, and bathrooms without working extraction are where it lands. A fan that is not vented outside, perished shower silicone or a wall that stays cold are the usual suspects.

We look for the source as part of the job, because the cause decides whether it comes back.

Will bleach do the same thing at home?

Bleach takes the colour out of the mould, but on porous grout and plaster it barely gets below the surface. That is why home-treated spots often come back.

We use treatments that work into the surface rather than just lightening it, and tell you when a silicone bead is too far gone and needs replacing instead.

Is the price fixed before you start?

Yes, against the area and the surface. A small bathroom or surface area is $260, and a single wall or ceiling treatment starts at $359.

Send photos with your enquiry. Mould is one of the few jobs where a photo tells us almost everything we need to quote it.

Mould is a symptom. Clean it without fixing the moisture and you have bought yourself a season.

Why do Adelaide homes book us for mould?

Mould cleaning comes down to being straight about the cause and the limit.

How much does mould cleaning cost in Adelaide?

Published South Australian rates, including GST, for surface mould cleaning. Remediation is quoted after an inspection.

Surface mould on a small bathroom or a similar area.

From $359

Where do we clean mould across Adelaide?

Homes across metropolitan Adelaide, the coastal suburbs and the foothills. If the mould is low on the wall rather than high, mention it when you book, because that often points to salt damp.

City and inner east

  • Adelaide CBD
  • North Adelaide
  • Kent Town
  • Norwood
  • Unley
  • Burnside
  • Prospect
  • Walkerville

We service everything from CBD apartments to classic bluestone and sandstone villas. Older period homes trap dust on picture rails, high skirting boards, and ceiling roses. We target these exact spots during our visits.

West and coastal

  • Ashford
  • Marleston
  • Glenelg
  • Henley Beach
  • Semaphore
  • West Lakes
  • Port Adelaide

We clean coastal properties and classic brick veneer homes. Salt air blowing off the Gulf leaves a sticky film on glass and jams up window tracks. We dedicate extra time to scrubbing these frames and windows so they slide perfectly.

North, south and the Hills

  • Salisbury
  • Elizabeth
  • Gawler
  • Mawson Lakes
  • Modbury
  • Marion
  • Morphett Vale
  • Noarlunga
  • Stirling
  • Aldgate
  • Mount Barker

We cover the newer estates out on the plains and the older stone properties up in the Hills. Spring pollen hits the Adelaide Hills hard. We recommend booking window and vent cleaning early in the season to keep allergens outside.

What do Adelaide customers ask when mould keeps coming back?

How much mould is too much to just clean?

Small patches on a hard surface are a cleaning job. Once it covers a large area, keeps returning within weeks, or you can smell it without seeing it, the moisture problem is bigger than the mould and we assess it on inspection for remediation.

What if the mould has gone into the wall or ceiling?

Then it needs remediation rather than a clean: the area contained, affected building materials removed and the space dried out. We offer mould remediation, quoted after an inspection, and the leak or ventilation fix itself goes to a builder or plumber.

What is the difference between mould cleaning and mould remediation?

Cleaning removes surface growth from paint, tile, grout and silicone. Remediation deals with mould that has gone into the building, so materials come out and the area is dried before it is closed up again.

Will the mould come back after cleaning?

If the moisture source is still there, yes. Fix the leak, the extractor fan or the ventilation and a clean holds, but leave it and mould usually returns to the same spot within a season.

Do you clean black mould?

Yes, where it is surface growth on a hard or painted surface. We do not identify species or make claims about what any mould does, and growth behind the wall lining is assessed on inspection for remediation.

Will the stain come out?

Sometimes. Cleaning removes the growth, but the stain it leaves can remain in grout, bare plaster and older paintwork, and silicone gone black through the seal usually needs replacing. We tell you which is which before we start.

Do you do mould testing or air quality testing?

No. Air quality and spore testing are separate services done by specialists. We clean visible mould and quote remediation where it has gone deeper.

Do you clean mould on curtains, carpet or furniture?

Those go to the matching service: curtain cleaning, upholstery cleaning or carpet cleaning. Heavily affected soft furnishings sometimes need replacing rather than cleaning, and we will say so.

Should I get the rest of the room cleaned as well?

Often it is worth it. Mould on a bathroom ceiling usually means the grout has been damp too, and doing both in one visit means the room is only disrupted once.

What does mould cleaning cost in Adelaide?

A small bathroom or surface area is $260 including GST, and a single wall or ceiling treatment starts at $359. Mould remediation is quoted after an inspection, and photos with your enquiry get you a fixed price faster.
